Re-Discover (Sunday Nights)
Teaching Scope & Sequence
It's no secret that today's teenagers are struggling.
They are bombarded daily with incredibly difficult pressures never known
to previous generations. Teens often feel inadequate, not good enough,
and disconnected from the "normal" world of their parents and
adults. The media and entertainment industries have given girls
unfair and unrealistic expectations for their bodies. It's easier for
young boys today to find themselves trapped in a world of pornography with no
one to tell. The stress and expectations of fitting into the chaotic,
tech savvy, always connected routine of the teenage culture is bringing teens
to a level of depression never seen before in the history of our nation. We
could go on and on. It's no wonder that suicide is the third leading
cause of death among teenagers.
As a church, we cannot and will not ignore these realities.
We are also confident that you will not ignore these realities in the
life of the teenagers you may be connected to. We are committed to step
in alongside you on a new journey of hope!
Re-Discover has been designed from the ground up to help
teenagers and to partner with parents. Every Sunday night from 5 to 8pm
beginning August 7th teenagers will be met with friends, food, games, social
time, loving mentors, and creative biblical teaching. Re-Discover will be
a place where teenagers love to come!
During our year together, we believe God will help bring
freedom to the lives of countless teenagers as well as their parents.
Freedom from the unrelenting pressures of this world, freedom from a life
filled with anger and hate, freedom from unfair unrealistic expectations,
freedom from addictions and destructive behavior, and most importantly freedom
from sin and death.
Re-Discover is open to middle school students (entering 6th
- 8th grades), high school students (9th - 12th grades), as well as college age
students.
SO WHAT ABOUT WEDNESDAY NIGHTS FOR STUDENTS AT
CLEARY?
Our strategy goes against the status quo. Every Wednesday night our entire church body gathers for worship at 6pm
in the main worship center. This includes
children all the way through senior adults.
After worship the children are dismissed to kid's adventure, but the youth stay with the adults
for a time of biblical teaching and prayer.
This is done intentionally. Our
goal is to connect students with the body at Cleary while teaching them deep biblical truths.
Every student who attends Cleary on a regular basis has been assigned a mentor. Each student's mentor has been
challenged to sit with and pray with his or her student every Wednesday night. Please understand that our goal is to partner
with parents in the spiritual formation of every student. The most ideal scenario is for students
to have parents & mentors praying with and over them.
If you are a parent, then we want to encourage you to join the body of Christ at Cleary as a family
every Wednesday night.
PARENTING SEMINARS & TRAINING
Throughout
the course of the school year, parents will receive information about specific
parent training and seminars offered by Cleary Baptist Church. Our goal as a church is to be the place where
you can find biblical vision, hope, support and true biblical community as a
parent. Please be sure and visit our parenting resource page
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC MISSIONS PARTNERSHIP
Over the past few years our church
has developed a strong partnership with missionaries and indigenous pastors in
the Dominican Republic. Every Sunday night
at Re-Discover we will take up an offering that will go to provide basic needs
(food, shelter, clothing) for several families we work with in the Dominican
Republic.
During spring break week (March 12-16, 2012), we are offering a mission trip to the
Dominican Republic for select students of Re-Discover. While in the Dominican Republic we will work with the missionaries and
families our church already has a relationship with. We will also visit the families that the students have been sponsoring finincially. We want every student at Re-Discover to have
the opportunity to bring the hope of Christ to the Dominican Republic.
