Mission Surge Conference


The first ever Mission Surge Conference was held on November 12-14, 2010 at Cleary Baptist Church.  The theme of the conference was "The Gospel:  The Power of God for Salvation."  Below you will find a brief bio of the conference speakers as well the video sermons they preached.  In these sermons, you will hear about the true biblical Gospel of Jesus Christ and how it impacts individuals, families, churches, communities, and the world.

Conference Speakers & Sermons

Dr. Paul Young

The Gospel

Paul is the Senior Pastor at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Florence, Mississippi.  He received an M.Div. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.  He went on to earn his Doctor of Ministry Degree in expository preaching from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.  He is the author of The Basics of Becoming a Christian: Answering 5 Critical Questions for Those interested in Becoming a Christian.  He is married to Angela and has a daughter named Christian.

Dr. Justin McClendon 

The Gospel's Impact on the Individual

Justin is the Senior Pastor of Briar Hill Baptist Church.  He earned  his M.Div. and Ph.D from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Christie, have one daughter, Marlee, who is 18 months old, and are expecting identical twins in December 2010.

Jerry Marcellino              

The Gospel's Impact on the Family

Jerry has been a full-time pastor since 1988 and has been the pastor of Audubon Drive Bible Church in Laurel, Mississippi, since 1993.  Jerry received his B.A. in Communication from the  University of Hawaii and an M.Div from Capital Bible Seminary in Lanham, Maryland.  He is the author of Rediscovering the Lost Treasure of Family Worship, Should Christians Have A Heart For Israel? - A Biblical Perspective, Should The Church Have A Heart For Israel? - A Historical Perspective and Should the Nations Have A Heart For Israel? - An Eternal Perspective. He has contributed many articles to such publications as: Reformation Today (UK), Reformation Africa South, Table Talk, Pulpit Helps, The Toronto Baptist Seminary -  Gospel Witness and The Journal of Modern Ministry. Jerry has contributed chapters to the following books: Reforming Pastoral Ministry: The Christian Ministry in Post Modern Times (Crossway Books, 2001) and A Foundation For Life: A Study of Key Doctrines and Their Application (Joshua Press, 2002). He writes a regular column for his local newspaper: The Laurel Leader-Call. He is also a frequent speaker at Church Leadership, Family, Youth, and Christian School conferences throughout the United States and abroad. He is a co-founder of The Fellowship of Independent Reformed Evangelicals (FIRE). In addition, Jerry serves on numerous other ministry-related boards located in both the US and abroad.  He and his wife of 27 years, Dawn, are the blessed parents of 5 sons and 2 daughters.

Kevin Ivy

The Gospel's Impact on the Church

Kevin is the Senior Pastor of Cleary Baptist Church in Florence, MS.  Kevin has a B.A. in Religion from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS, a Master or Arts in Religion from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Virginia, and an M.Div. from Luther Rice in Lithonia, Georgia.  He is currently enrolled at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lousville, KY and is scheduled to graduate with his D.Min. in May of 2011.  He is married to Mandy Ivy and has 3 sons, Luke, Levi, and Jude.

Gene Pickern                   

The Gospel's Impact on the Ends of the Earth

Gene Pickern is a missionary to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic with the International Mission Board.  Gene has an M. Div. from Luther Rice in Lithonia, Georgia and has graduated from the Spanish Language Institute of Costa Rica.  He has served churches in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana as pastor.  He is a dynamic speaker with Christ's heart for the nations.  He is married to Julie and has one son, one daughter, and two grandsons.

Dr. Greg Belser

The Gospel: The Power of God for Salvation

Greg is the Pastor of Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton, MS.  He pastored two churches in Alabama including fifteen years as Senior Pastor at Morningview Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. He is a graduate of Corpus Christi State University and went on to earn an M.Div. and a D.Min. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He is married to Susan and has 3 daughters: Ashley, Bethany, and Lindsay.

Buddy Sheriff

The Gospel's Impact on the Community

Buddy is the senior Pastor at First Baptist church of Florence. He has B.A. in Th. from the Baptist College of Florida, and M.T.S. from the Louisiana Baptist Theological Seminary in Shreveport, LA. He is married to Ginger and has three daughters and one son-in-law.

Neal H. Creecy, Ph.D.

The Gospel's Impact on the Church

Neal was saved at the age of eleven and began preaching at the age of sixteen.  He has served in a variety of ministry roles including pastoring,  collegiate ministry, seminary teaching, and mission work in over twenty- six countries.  Neal graduated with an MDIV and a Ph.D. from Mid- America Baptist Theological Seminary.   Neal will be relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada in January to begin a church plant called Redemption Baptist.
